The following will be a basic overview of the use of the Speedgrader function in Canvas. Below you will also find several links for exploring advanced techniques using Speedgrader according to your needs.
Access Speedgrader
1) Via Gradebook- Open the gradebook by clicking on the GRADES Tab
2) Scroll through the Assignments by name and select the one you'd like to grade.
Click the three dots to the right of the name, you will see a drop-down menu, select SPEEDGRADER
That will bring up this view of student work:
How to Read the Top Left of the Toolbar:

6. Help- pulls up a list of help articles from within Canvas
How to Read the Top Center of the Toolbar:
- Assignment name
- Due date
- Name of the course
- The number of assignments that have been graded out of the total number of students in the course
- The average score or percentage
How to Read the Top Right of the Toolbar:
The left and right arrows allow you to toggle to either the prior or the next student. The drop-down arrow allows you to scroll to a particular student.
Right-hand side feedback controls:
-Submission Date- this can help clear up any potential conflicts about exactly when something was submitted
-Displays the format of the submission
-Assessment- this is where you KEY in a score, use of a Rubric can assist this process under advanced skills
-Assignment Comments- Giving Feedback can often be a critical piece of the growth and mastery of students on various topics. This can be done typed out comments, attached files including screenshots, recorded messages, and audio recordings.
