Sometimes parents want an observer account in Canvas to keep an eye on their child's progress and communicate with their respective teacher(s). Both facilitators and school admins can do this in PLI Connect.
In the Quick Links section of your PLI Connect dashboard, click the Parent Observer icon.
Clicking that icon will bring you to a document with best practice tips. To actually add the account, click Parent Observer Account in that document.
You need four pieces of information to create a parent observer account:
- The parent's first name
- The parent's last name
- The parent's email
- The student's Canvas ID (the username they use to log in)
After you put in that information, click Add Parent Observer. It will automatically create a Canvas account for them and add them to their child's courses. They should get an invite email asking them to create a password as well.
If they have more than one student enrolled in courses, do the same thing, switching only the Student Canvas ID. Provided you use the same name and email, this will not create a new account; It will just link the parent to an additional student and their courses.
